Monaghan was incorporated in 1981 and has supported people with respiratory conditions over the past 45 years. It continues to develop new products based on patient feedback, creating better, safer medical devices.

For example, the AEROCHAMBER2GO® adds a protective case around an inhaler. This helps keep the MDI clean while transporting. “It’s designed for kids and active members of the community,” says Sepcie.

The AEROBIKA® OPEP device is designed to help clear mucus from the airways that builds up when someone catches a cold or gets the flu. This can be invaluable for people whose respiratory conditions are made worse by illness.

“This is very satisfying work,” says Sepcie. “It’s rewarding when someone tells you they use our devices and breathe easier as a result.” 

The Company is the “People’s Choice” in Pulmonary Care 

Sepcie calls Monaghan the “Cadillac of respiratory devices,” and it has the awards to back up that claim. The company has won the Zenith Award from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for 11 out of the past 12 years. This award is decided by a panel of respiratory therapists who evaluate companies that develop patient-care products.

Another source of pride for Monaghan is its American-made products. Around 90% of the company’s supply chain is based in North America. This ensures product quality while preventing production disruptions due to international events. 

Monaghan Puts Patients First, Employees Second

Monaghan has around 150 employees, with 90 located in Plattsburgh. The company prides itself on caring for its team members, elevating employees just behind patients in terms of importance.  

In 2020, the company expanded to a 65,000-square-foot facility in Clinton County. There was no discussion about moving to a different location within the state or across the country. Monaghan owed it to its employees to stay in Plattsburgh.

“We have employees who have dedicated their careers supporting our growth; we wanted to be supportive of them for years to come,” says Sepcie. “We did not want to uproot them or leave them without a place to call their work home.”

The company also hosts events throughout the year for its team members, including a Healthy Us fair where team members can meet with local organizations and resource providers to support their health. During this fair, employees receive free biometric screenings and save $520 from their annual healthcare costs just for doing so.  

“We all get busy with our lives, and then our health suffers,” says Sepcie. “These screenings give team members an opportunity to see what areas of their health they can work on.”

Investing in employee health helps team members live longer, happier lives outside of work. It allows them to enjoy time with family, friends, and the greater community.

“We have a lot of innovation in this part of the country, and these organizations foster that,” he says. “They are focused on organizational development and employee growth, while rolling out the red carpet for any business coming to the area.”
