The Northeast Group Leads in Logistics and is Driven by Compassion

The Northeast Group

Clinton County, New York, is a logistics hub due to its proximity to the Canadian border and East Coast ports. Companies can quickly establish supply chains in the community, importing materials and exporting goods as needed. One partner they can work closely with throughout is The Northeast Group, an established fulfillment business that connects clients worldwide.

“We started out as a printing and mailing company nearly 48 years ago,” says Betsy Vicencio, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Northeast Group. “Since then, we have expanded from a small family business into a leader in the community.”

The Northeast Group excels in fulfillment, logistics, and distribution, while also investing heavily in the people of Clinton County – especially those who need a second (or third, fourth, or fifth) chance. This focus on those in need has helped grow Clinton County and has changed the lives of those The Northeast Group helps.

The Northeast Group Leads Revitalization Efforts

In the nearly 50 years that The Northeast Group has operated in Clinton County, it has always been a pioneer of revitalization, bringing opportunities and life into neglected areas.

The company first opened its doors in a building along State Route 3 and eventually renovated three buildings in downtown Plattsburgh. In 1995, when Plattsburgh Air Force Base closed, The Northeast Group was one of the first companies to move in and repurpose the buildings.

Today, The Northeast Group has three warehouses on the base and has converted the former dormitory buildings into housing for those in need.

“We move our business into underdeveloped areas to pair our expansion with growth in the region,” says Vicencio. “As we grow, so does the neighborhood around us.”

The Northeast Group’s MHAB division provides housing for people in early stages of recovery from substance use disorder, mental health challenges, domestic violence, chronic poverty, and veterans in need; working collaboratively with our community partners to connect residents to services, stability, and a pathway to independence.

The Company is in the Business of Lifting People Up

At first glance, The Northeast Group looks like your standard logistics provider, but you can see how the business stands out when you ask about its hiring practices. While most companies look for people who have a reliable track record and proven longevity with employers, The Northeast Group is willing to give people a chance who have had a rough hand dealt to them in life.

“We look to hire people who need a chance to get their act together,” says Vicencio. “We can put our support around them and give them the skills they need. We also hire people who bring more to the table than just leadership skills. We want team members who can teach with a gentle hand and act with compassion.”

Vicencio is adamant that the Northeast Group is in the business of lifting people up. “Success isn't measured only by what leaves our warehouses,” she says. “It's measured by the lives that leave our organization stronger than when they arrived.”

Logistics Makes Sense in Clinton County

Clinton County’s proximity to Montreal makes it an asset to companies that import and export goods to Canada. Vicencio speaks highly of both the port and the robust rail system, which give companies access to the inland states.

“We have a window to some of the largest markets in the world,” she says. “Plattsburgh’s location makes it one of the hidden gems of the country.”

There are strong partnerships among the region's logistics firms, the companies that operate in Clinton County, and the people who choose to live here. Plattsburgh, in particular, is less than an hour from one of Canada’s largest metropolitan areas but manages to maintain its small-town charm. It offers a strong balance between opportunity and comfort for residents and businesses alike.

There’s also plenty of room for growth in Clinton County. The fact that it isn’t overdeveloped means there’s space for more companies that want to bring a community-focused footprint to the region. There’s an opportunity for more businesses like The Northeast Group to start their next chapters here.
